On arrival in Venice

You are asked to phone the greeter on arrival at Marco Polo airport (or Santa Lucia railway station, or Piazzale Roma if arriving by road bus or car) so that she or he knows that you are on time and making your way to the apartment. The greeter will be waiting for you at the apartment at the agreed time as per your arrival instructions and as a consideration to them we ask you to make your way straight to the apartment. Unfortunately it simply is not possible to expect keyholders to wait whilst you stop off for a Bellini or two in Harrys Bar!

Ringing Italian telephone numbers

You will find it very useful to bring your mobile/cell phone with you.

All Italian mobile numbers start with “3”. There is no need to insert an extra zero at the start of the number.

The international dialing code for Italy is +39. The “+” denotes the international dialing code from your country. For example, if phoning from the UK, you would dial “0039”.

  • If you are phoning the local contact from your country, dial +39 before the contact’s number.
  • If you are phoning the local contact from within Italy on a foreign mobile/cell phone dial +39 before the contact’s number.
  • If you are phoning the local contact from within Italy on an Italian phone, simply dial the contact’s number without the +39.

Arrival times

Due to changeovers and the cleaners preparing the apartments, you should not expect to have the apartment before 4 p.m. However, if you arrive early it may be possible to obtain the keys and leave your luggage at the apartment whilst it is being cleaned.

Arrival at the apartment must not be later than 7 pm (local time), unless arranged with us in advance. It is difficult to ensure that you can be met after this time and may result in you having to arrange hotel accommodation for the first evening. We would be happy to suggest a hotel close to the airport.

Where we are able to arrange a late arrival we are obliged to charge a late arrival fee of EUR 65 to be paid directly to the key holder.

Departure procedure

You should arrange to vacate your apartment between 9 and 10 am on your last day. In some cases where you have a late flight, you may be able to leave luggage to pick up later, at the key holder’s discretion. This should be organized prior to departure. Alternatively, there is a left luggage service at the Santa Lucia train station.

Please note: if by prior agreement you have been able to leave your bags in the apartment, it will not be possible to use the wc or showers in the apartment as they have been cleaned for the next guest arriving that day.

When you leave, please…

  • switch off the lights
  • make sure electrical appliances are switched off at the mains
  • lock all doors and windows
  • leave the property clean and tidy
  • take out the rubbish
  • check you have all your luggage.

Directions to the apartment

Nearest vaporetto stop: San Marco Giardinetti

As you step off, walk a few steps back along the water, over a bridge and take the narrow street on the right, which runs between the famous Harry’s Bar and the Hotel Monaco.
At the end of this street, turn left and walk until you reach the church San Moisé to your left. Cross a bridge and immediately after the bridge, to your left, walk under the arches along a hotel, then take a right, and a left, following indications towards the Hotel Europa&Regina. You will reach a square called Campo Barozzi. The apartment  is the salmon coloured building at the far end of the square. There are two adjacent doors. Your’s is the right one. Ring the bell which says “Portineria”. You will be taken up to your apartment from there.

Water taxi stop: Palazzo Ca Nova’s private pontoon. It is important to call the palazzo 15 minutes prior to arrival on the “greeter” phone to warn staff to open the door on the canal.

From Marco Polo airport

From the airport, either:

  • take the Alilaguna Red or the Blu waterbus to San Marco or
  • take the road bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma. From there, take the No. 1 vaporetto to San Marco Giardinetti.

From Santa Lucia railway station or Piazzale Roma

If you are arriving by train at Venice Santa Lucia, you can catch the No. 1 vaporetto from Ferrovia, which is right outside the station to San Marco Giardinetti

From Treviso airport

You can buy a ticket for the bus to Venice at the ticket office in the arrivals hall after collecting your baggage. The bus leaves from just outside the airport terminal building. You will arrive in Venice at Piazzale Roma. The journey takes about 70 minutes. From there, you can catch the no. 2 vaporetto. Alternatively you can take a bus (number 6) to Treviso train station; the train takes 20 minutes to get into Santa Lucia station in Venice. From there you can take a vaporetto from the Ferrovia stop to your apartment.

Venetian addresses

Venice houses are numbered by sestiere (district), not by street. You’ll notice that house numbers simply continue as you go round the corner from one street to the next. For example, “San Marco 2885, Campo San Vidal” is number 2885 in the San Marco sestiere, and is in Campo San Vidal. In some cases, the street name is not even given. The map in this information pack shows the location of your apartment as closely as possible.

Points to note

  • In the summer months of July and August mosquitos do appear when humidity exceeds 70% and temperature exceeds 28°C (82°F). At night time it is advised to close all windows and have cross ventilation from fans. Coils can be purchased (pastiglie antizanzare per fornelle) and these are most effective.
  • Close the shutters when you leave the apartment and at night for privacy, and in winter to conserve heat.
  • Water pressure in Venice can be a problem, especially in certain parts where it can be low. We ask you to please listen to the instructions of the local contacts how to best deal with the pressure.
  • Heating: according to the Italian law (D.P.R. n. 412 1993 for the Venice area) heating may be on from October 15th until April 15th (between 05:00 am and 11:00 pm) and the temperature can’t be regulated over 20°C (68°F).
  • Air conditioning, if available, can be on only from June 6th to September 3rd.
  • Electricity: in Venice there is a limit to the amount of electricity you can use in a single property at any one time. This is less than in other countries. Unfortunately it is not possible to have a lot of appliances (for example the washing machine, hairdryer and air conditioning unit) all on simultaneously as this will trip the main switch of the supply to the apartment. If you are careful in the way you use appliances, you can avoid this. If bringing out electrical equipment please do remember to bring an adapter with you. Electricity is 240V in Venice.

Thank you, and we do hope you have a wonderful time!

Any local difficulties should in the first instance be addressed to the keyholder who should immediately try to resolve any problems.
If this is not sufficient you should either contact our assistant in Venice, Lorenza Savini on her mobile (+39) 366 3775353 or email lorenza@veniceprestige.com or alternatively ring the office number in London which from Italy would be +44 (0)20 3356 9667 (Monday to Friday, 9.30am-5pm).
